Scriptures Against Attitudes of Superiority

SCRIPTURES AGAINST ATTITUDES OF SUPERIORITY

Patriarchy is a pagan practice. It came when sin entered the world. Patriarchy is rooted in male dominance and power that excludes women. Paganism is defined by the Webster’s dictionary as the “spiritual beliefs and practices other than those of Christianity, especially those of ancient polytheistic (worship of multiple gods) religions”. The ancient Greeks and Romans were known to treat women as inferior. Women had no worth but to be slaves to men/husbands, sex objects, and baby makers.

Just because we find pagan practices in the Bible like patriarchy, polygamy, and many others, doesn’t mean God approved or that we should follow them. There are many “what not to do” in the Bible as much as the “what to do”. Jesus honored, valued, and included women. He had many married and single women as disciples and friends. He treated women with love, dignity, and respect.

Paul had many women part of the fivefold ministry as apostles, prophets, evangelists, teachers, and pastors. When we study the Hebrew and the Greek to know the proper translations regarding women and wives in the Bible (see my books “Let My Women Go” and “Before the Ring and Beyond”), we see God’s heart for His mighty daughters. We also see that equality was God’s plan from the beginning (see my blog “Equality is Biblical”, for all the scriptures on equality).

As an abuse and marriage counsellor, and as a daughter of the King, I feel a burden to expose the enemy’s lies and help women be set free from wrong mindsets, teachings, and interpretations. One in three women get physically abused by their intimate partner, how much more are emotionally abused and discriminated as inferior?

Many societies today still practice and teach patriarchy which is not righteous. Most Christian denominations believe in male superiority over women because of the prideful pagan mindsets that were taught and used to translate and interpret scripture.

When men are prideful, arrogant, narcissistic, and chauvinistic, it becomes easy to believe the pagan mindset that they have all the power and control. They therefore assume they have the right or entitlement to abuse (“punish”), control, and discriminate. Attitudes of superiority and abuse of any kind are learned behavior. These men were taught to believe “they have the last say”, “they are in charge”, “they are the boss”. Jesus who is love, never abused, controlled, demanded, or imposed.

God did not create one human to be inferior to another (by gender or race), whether they are married to them or not. Attitudes of superiority are the opposite of humility – opposite of God’s nature. Humility puts others as more important than ourselves.

Attitudes of superiority are based on assumptions that others are inferior.

Chauvinist:

Definition: an attitude of superiority towards members of the opposite sex

Sexist:

Definition: prejudice, discrimination, or preconceived judgment, or opinion against women.

Attitudes that foster stereotype of social roles based on sex.

Arrogant:

Definition: an attitude of superiority manifested by an overbearing manner or in claims or

assumptions.

Haughty:

Definition: blatantly and disdainfully proud. Having or showing an attitude of superiority

and contempt for people or things perceived to be inferior.

Prideful:

Definition: haughty and disdainful. Disdainful is being full of or expressing contempt for

someone regarded as unworthy or inferior.

Even though we have all the following scriptures against attitudes of superiority, most men, husbands, and pastors, still believe they are superior to women, especially their wives.

· The Passion Translation TPT states it: 17-

putting others down while considering yourself superior

I pray that men and women purpose to know the Father’s heart and the truth regarding His daughters. Women, like men, were created to lead for God and in their home alongside their husbands. I don’t believe God even has the capability of creating anyone inferior, never mind endorsing such demonic attitudes.
